Claret & Blue Army beats Liverpool; suffers 4th PL defeat

W88 is here to report that The Premier League (PL) went wild this 4th game match week as the defending champions Liverpool were decimated by Aston Villa 7-2.

The Reds traveled to Birmingham to seek their fourth straight win of the season but the Claret & Blue army instead humiliated them in Villa Park.

The defeat, the Reds fourth since January 2019, shocked the world as it was the first time Liverpool gave up seven goals since 1963.

Ollie Watkins recorded a hat-trick (4’, 22’, 39’) in the first half to open up a huge gap against the struggling Liverpool.

The first goal was a result of an error by goalkeeper Adrian, passing the ball to Villa captain Jack Grealish who then sends it to Watkins for an early goal. Watkins’ second goal was a top right corner goal after an assist from Grealish.

Mohammed Salah finally put a stop to Liverpool’s woes as he scored at the 33-minute mark. However, John McGinn quickly responded through a goal from his deflected volley at the 35-minute mark to put Villa ahead, 3-1.

Watkins’ third goal was a header from a cross by Trezeguet further widened the gap before the half to 4-1. Villa debutant Ross Barkley opened the second half with a curler at the 55-minute mark. The goal was also captained Grealish’s third assist of the match.

Salah again provided an answer to the beating at the 60-minute mark. Salah’s goal came from an assist by Robert Fimino. Grealish joined the fray as he kicked-in his first goal of the match at the 66-minute mark.

The goal this time was an assist from Watkins, but a shoulder deflection from Fabinho sent the ball past Adrian. Villa did not take their foot off the gas just yet as Grealish delivered the killing blow, a seventh goal, at the 75-minute mark.

Josh McGinn this time assisted captain Grealish for the goal. The referee blew the whistle at the 90-minute mark, ending the maelstrom that Villa brought upon Liverpool.

Surprised by his team’s performance, Villa manager Dean Smith said “We never dreamed of getting a result like this. The performance was outstanding from start to finish.”

He further added, “We have carried on the momentum from the end of last season but we have added quality to that.”

Villa remains undefeated in the season while sneaking up to second place behind Everton. Villa looks to continue their good start to prevent relegation this season after finishing 17th last season.

On the other hand, a ton of questions to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been raised as he suffered the worst defeat of his illustrious run with the squad.

He did not mince words and said “We had big chances which we did not use, but when you concede seven, I’m not sure you can say it would have been 7-7. We made too many mistakes and massive ones obviously.”

Klopp did not resort to excuses even though the match did not see action from injured goalkeeper Alisson, and COVID-19-ridden Sadio Mane and Thiago.

Liverpool will battle Everton in their second match of the Merseyside derby on Saturday, October 17. Meanwhile, Villa will travel to King Power Stadium to clash with Leicester City on the same day. Both matches will occur after the international break.
